The Devil Spoke

1.) The Devil Spoke
I started out on the pavement, cold covered the street
The sun had vanished from my optical axis; the weather suited me
As I stood in the rain, lamentation spread
like the venom of one thousands asps from the lips of a friend
and the devil spoke; the devil spoke
So I write again to impede the madness, but I know I’d like to make believe like I don’t care at all
and there’s something deeper
You set a fire to take a life
But that stone is empty, and I survived
I stared into the void of my prison, where I spent those days enveloped by the smoke of anguish and unceasing pain
I watched the cell burn down as you lost the key; slandered my name at the eulogy, and though you saw no sign of me, the devil spoke and you agreed. The devil spoke and you agreed
So I write again to impede the madness, but I know I’d like to make to believe like I don’t care at all
and there’s something growing deeper, up
The devil spoke

The windows pass the fields again, the youth are ready to die
Fruitless grain; parchment splayed on weathered rows of pine
No one tells them, no one knows
It never rains, nothing grows
The elders pass the gruel again, the youth don’t lift their eyes
The sun’s been gone one hundred years, now sepia’s too bright
but no one tells them, so no one knows
no one bothers, just as no one bothered for them
But I know, I long; there’s something out there kept for me
I know, because I saw it somewhere buried in my dreams
Or maybe somewhere in this text we cauterized right as it bled
We just can’t stand to leave a mess, just quell the fire in our chest
Just quell the fire in our chest
Old depictions, cold evictions
Depictions on the hallowed walls suggest a former life
Much greater than a breath of cold in place of the divine
But no one tells us, so no one knows
If nothing is sacred, nothing is loathed
But I loathe, yes I loathe
I know, I long; there’s something out there kept for me
I know, because I saw it somewhere buried in my dreams
Or maybe somewhere in this text we cauterized right as it bled
We just can’t stand to leave a mess, just quell the fire in our chest
But I can’t quell the fire in my chest
Can’t quell the fire, can’t quell the soul

Perennial Sun

I have wasted, and I have wronged
I’ve indulged such treachery; am I too far off?
The world is under clouds; my soul is underneath
The skies darkened, my linens torn
Those twisted voices, I hear them call
The world in clouds
The ravens encircle
The vultures have swarmed the creature I’ve become
The wind starts to howl,
the trees join in a chorus of disdain
My lungs, my eyes;
My very soul, it testifies
The coffin beckons for the rights to my remains
Rarest pleasures and finest wine
And yet, fool’s glory outweighs mine
The world in clouds
My grave in ivy
Is my name obscured?
Only time will tell
The wind starts to howl,
the trees join in a chorus of disdain
My lungs, my eyes;
My very soul, it testifies
The coffin beckons for the rights to my remains
I am the eldest brother, and the returning son.

Academy Order Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
“Academy Order masterfully blends goth, death rock, post rock, new wave and hints of hardcore to create a special sound that
is simultaneously a revival and a revolution. Though these songs sound like the work of a band at the peak of their career, one can tell the band is just getting started.” - Evan Martin-Casler, Cvlt Nation
